New Secondary School Curriculum To Begin In 2017

The ministry of education has said the new guidelines for establishing, licensing, registering and classifying private schools and institutions are ready and they will be enforced with a new curriculum next term.

While commissioning St. Andrew Kaggwa Gombe High School in Kawaala in Wakiso district on Sunday, Alex Kakooza the education PS said the objective of the new guidelines is to ensure that private schools adhere to required education standards and government is enforcing its policy of promoting science and technology for national development.

He highlighted that among the new guidelines, government will increase scrutiny of schools that are profit driven, it will also require schools to have governing bodies and competent head teachers, it will also monitor discipline in schools and private schools will be required to give letters of appointment and sign contracts with employees.

He added that government is taking a firm stand against schools which collect examination fees from students but do not remit it to UNEB saying the vice is becoming rampant and it needs to be stopped.
