The 66th DPI/NGO Conference will be held in Gyeongju, South Korea from 30th May to 01st June 2016.
This year’s theme will be, “Education for Global Citizenship: Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals Together.”
During a 2014 online consultation regarding Sustainable Development Goals, the number one priority across all 9,000,000 respondents was a good education. Now, in preparation for this UN sanctioned conference in South Korea at the end of May, another global consultation has begun. The conference seeks to explore ways and means by which education for global citizenship can become a key element of formal, informal, and non-formal curricula.
Stakeholders of the conference commit to an education that will enable people to actively contribute to political and developmental processes in a complex, interlinked and diverse global society both within and beyond their borders. This education will include, but not be limited to: legal and political status; role, rights and responsibilities as a member of a community; general forms of behavior including social, moral and ethical dimensions; the global impact of actions; the value of diversity; use of economic and environmental resources; political and social systems; multilingual competence; and the use of information and communication technologies.
