Muteesa I Royal University | MRU is privately owned and was founded by the Kingdom of Buganda in 2007 in the former premises of Masaka Technical Institute and Buganda Royal Institute of Business and technical education.

Leadership: Its first vice chancellor was Prof Nsereko Munakukaama who retired in 2011. He was replaced by Prof Isaac Kigongo Bukenya who took over as acting vice chancellor until Prof Sserwanga came in 2014.

The second campus is located on Mengo Hill, the seat of the Buganda Government, within the city of Kampala. The third campus is located in the town of Mubende, approximately 170 kilometres (110 mi), by road, and west of Kampala.

Facilities

Muteesa I Royal University | MRU will soon have a modern library. The new library will have networked computer system, fully furnished, latest books for each course and also said that the University has plans to have well equipped libraries at all its campuses.

As of March 2011, Muteesa I Royal University | MRU has the following academic faculties:

• Faculty of Science and Technology – Located at Mengo

• Faculty of Social Studies and Cultural Development Studies – Located at Mengo

• Faculty of Business Management – Located at Mengo

• Faculty of Science and Technology – Located at Masaka • Faculty of Art and Design – Located at Masaka

• Faculty of Education – Located at Nazigo, Kayunga District Muteesa I Royal University | MRU clinic on campus is operated under a Resident Doctor, Clinical Officer and Nurses and is open daily to serve students and the rest of the University Community. The hours are posted at the clinic and in the halls of residence.

The philosophy of the Food Services is to serve promptly, graciously a variety of culturally acceptance food in an attractive, pleasant atmosphere. The University Cafeteria charges for meals on a flat rate plan, which allows for the normal three meals per day in the basic boarding to the last day of final examination each semester. Students remaining during vacation periods are charged a daily boarding fee. There is number of recreation sports activities at Muteesa I Royal University the following are the sport activities that are carried out Field Athletic, Basket ball, Cross country, Volleyball, Foot ball, Rugby. The University is also involved in international sport Competition and East African University Games
