Kyambogo University(KYU) is Uganda’s third public university established by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 and the Universities and Other Tertiary institutions (Establishment of Kyambogo University) instruments of 2003. It is a merger of the former Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK), the Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK), and the Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE). It is one of the eight public universities and degree-awarding institutions in the country and is located on Kyambogo Hill, Kyambogo University.

Kyambogo University is a relatively new University created with the main aim of promoting and advancing knowledge and development of skills in Science, Technology and Education and such other fields having regards for quality, equity, progress and transformation of society.

University has six faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Engineering, Science, Special Needs & Rehabilitation, Vocational Studies, and one school of Management & Entrepreneurship.

The university has a Vision, To be a Centre of Academic and Professional Excellence and a Mission, To advance and promote knowledge and development of skills in Science, Technology and Education, and in such other fields having regards for quality, equity, progress and transformation of society.

Facilities

Kyambogo University | KYU has four libraries that students can use for their reading. These include: the Barclays Library in the East End of the campus, the Technology library at the West End and the Education library, and the other at the North End. There are also various departmental libraries and resource rooms in the various Faculties and Departments. There are specific computer rooms and laboratories designated for use by graduate students. However, it is mandatory that graduate students will require to be computer literate and to undertake general computer science course to enable them handle graduate work.

There is a University Health Centre which caters for students in addition to many other health facilities. The University offers both curative and health promotion services to staff and their dependants, and students. The University Ambulance transports such cases to the medical centre. And where need arises to referral hospitals.

Five modern Residence halls for Government sponsored students and a limited number of privately sponsored students are available, of which two are for female students. There are also privately owned hostels that are affiliated to the university. There are a number of Private hostels in the vicinity of Kyambogo University. University meals are served to students who have got meal cards. Meal cards are issued from offices of the Domestic Bursars to only government sponsored students and private students who pay for the meals. The University is well-equipped for sports activities. It has two football fields, two running tracks, two basketball courts, four tennis courts, two handball courts, two netball pitches, four badminton courts, a rugby pitch and a cricket oval.
