Sacred Heart Seminary is a minor seminary in Gulu, Uganda that provides education, housing and integral spiritual formation to nurture priestly vocations.

Young men ages 14-19 study the foundations of education in a Catholic environment, prepare for future ministry to the universal church and discern their call to priesthood.  Sacred Heart Seminary is ranked in the top 8% of all high schools in Uganda, based on national examinations.Sacred Heart Seminary

Sacred Heart Seminary was originally founded in 1926 by the Comboni Missionaries of Italy. It operated in a small building until 1937 when the present seminary was constructed. In 1974 the Comboni Missionaries of the Archdiocese of Gulu became responsible for Sacred Heart Seminary.Sacred Heart Seminary Civil war resulted in the looting of the seminary many times from 1979 through 1992. In 2003, forty-one seminarians were abducted by rebels and the seminary was again looted. Over half were able to escape and return to the seminary. We continue to storm Heaven with our humble prayers for their protection and safe return home from captivity.

Sacred Heart Seminary is located five miles north of Gulu, where it provides food, shelter and Catholic education for young men in junior seminary, ages 14-19. Sacred Heart Seminary currently hosts 144 students, ______% of whom depend on scholarship funding from Hope for Uganda to remain enrolled in school. Students at Sacred Heart Seminary have the opportunity to receive a Catholic education while deepening their relationship with God and discerning their vocation to the priesthood. From 1993-2006 Sacred Heart Seminary served as a beacon of hope for victims of war by providing food, safe shelter and resettlement assistance. Sacred Heart Seminary also built ______ wells throughout the Archdiocese of Gulu and supported an Alcohol Treatment Center for the counseling and treatment of alcoholism.

Given their proximity to the conflict with the Lord’s Resistance Army, the leadership of Sacred Heart Seminary and members of the Board of Directors participated in peace negotiations between the Lord’s Resistance Army and the Ugandan government.
