Universal Movie and Television Institute was conceived from the increasing demand by the people in the East and Central Africa region for contemporary movies of African origin as opposed to the previous generations that tended to prefer westernised movies as their source of entertainment.
Universal Movie and Television Institute main study centre is in Kampala and satellite study centre with an internet connectivity for online studies was established in the major towns in umtivarious regions of Uganda namely; Mbale (Eastern), Mbarara (western) Arua, Gulu (Northern) over a two year period from commissioning. All major productions and practical training are at various selected locations all over the country.

Objectives
To provide the facilities for training and expertise in all professions/trade in the motion picture industry and shows.
To conduct research into all aspects of motion picture industry and entertainment.
To provide a data bank for the optional enhancement of performance in the motion picture industry.
To collaborate with similar institutions and relevant agencies within the country and abroad with the aim of creating a versatile motion picture industry.
Facilities: A large classroom theater, studio, library with internet connectivity and VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) for on-line studies. Full camera chain (latest range of HDV brands), editing equipment and suites, vehicle for moving students, resource persons and equipments to and from film locations, exotic locations arranged all over Uganda for practical training and production are also available at Universal Movie and Television Institute.
