Ave Maria Vocational Training and Youth Development Center was Established in 1984 by the initiative of Mr. Quilinous Otim, who was supported by the Bishop of Lira Diocese the late Rt Rev. Caesar Asili. The Institution is affiliated to the Catholic Diocese of Lira and the Bishop is the Patron and governed by seven Members of the Board of Trustees, Administration Staff and Teaching Staff.
The Institution is registered by the Directorate of Industrial Training, Ministry of Education and Sports and UNEB and National NGO Board. The Courses offered are:-Tailoring and Cutting Garment, Brick Laying and Concrete Practice, Painting and Decoration, Welding and Metal Fabrication, Carpentry and Joinery, Computer ,Bee-keeping.
It has also other complementary Courses eg:- HIV/ AIDS Education, Psycho-social Support, Moral Education/Crime Prevention Training, Basic Business Skills, Illiteracy Programme.
The institution targets most disadvantaged children in the following categories:-Out of school children, Formerly abducted children, Child Mothers, Children who where engaged in Child Labor, Unemployed Youth, Children who have completed Primary Level and other interested Youth from Secondary Education.
