Kiswa Nursery and Primary School is situated in Kiwa community center and works in collaboration with Kiswa Community Children Center.Despite Universal Primary Education being introduced throughout Uganda, more than a decade ago the cost of educating a child has been prohibitive for many families, especially for the poorest people living in Kampala’s urban villages, including all categories of orphans.

There is also a huge demand for primary education due to the growing population of children. More than 50% of Uganda’s population is under 15 years old.

Academics

In response to this need, more than 200 children are registered at Kiswa Community Nursery and Primary School where they receive a good standard of education, following the Ugandan national curriculum. The school is affiliated to the Baptist Union of Uganda Education Network.

In addition to their studies, children also receive two meals a day and help with the cost of uniform and scholastic materials. In order to encourage community ownership of the school, parents are asked to make a contribution.

Facilities

When the school was first opened, church members worked voluntarily as teachers, cooks and helpers but UK financial support has enabled staff to be paid and receive formal training. In order to become fully registered with the government, the school requires major investment in a building of its own with more space than it has currently on its current site.
