Karongo Primary School opened in 1960’s with sole purpose of helping children of Kakira Sugar Works’ employees to attend school. It acquired its name from the location where it was opened i.e. “Karongo Quarters”. It started with few classes but after some years it developed into a complete primary school with a kindergarten attached. It is a day school with a population of 320 pupils, primary and kindergarten combined.

Karongo Primary School has 16 teachers and 10 support staff that include cooks, cleaners and watchmen. There are 9 classrooms of which 7 are primary and 2 for per-primary classes. Pupils participate in both academic and co-curricular programmes and are good at them all.
