Kagamba Day and Boarding Primary School got its start in the 1920s as a church school for boys. A girls’ was established in 1948, and the two schools merged in 1966 to form the present day Kagamba Day & Boarding Primary School.
The boarding section of the school was started by Caritas Mbarara in 2004. Today, the school has 20 classrooms, but they are in need of repair. Twenty government-appointed teachers teach the 1,049 students. There are 52 boarders who pay 80,000 shillings ($50) per term and day students pay 2,000 ($1.25) per term. In 2007, the school received 2,701,246 shillings (almost $1,700) from the government and runs a small banana plantation to raise additional funds.
