J.O.Y. Primary School was founded by the Deliverance Church in 1990. It moved to its current site in 2001. The name of the school comes from Jesus first; Others second; Yourself last and the evangelical religious viewpoint is obviously paramount although it accepts students from all denominations.
J.O.Y. Primary School has a three storey building containing classrooms and the school grounds are paved rather than being dirt. It was built by a combination of contributions from parents and a donation from Friends of Life, an Irish charity.
[related_posts]There are 380 students in nursery to P7, 10 classrooms and 15 teachers. Nursery is the largest class with 100 students. It is divided into three groups and there is one class in each of the other seven grades. There are no boarders. Pupils pay 165,000 shillings (approx. $97) per term.
J.O.Y. Primary School has 11 acres of land in Kampala at a cost of $27,500 and plans to build a secondary school when additional funds become available. There are six other J.O.Y. schools in Uganda – Jinja, Lugazi, Wairaka, Mukono (all within 40 miles of Kampala), Mbale (about 200 miles east) and Arua (in the far north of the country).
