Gamatui Girls Primary School was established in the 1930s and since 2006 has been run by the Sisters of Mary although there is only one sister on the staff. There are 449 children from grades 1 to 7 and, despite the name of the school, 50 of these are boys.

The school has 17 teachers and 9 classrooms. 400 of the children are boarders and the intention is to move to 100% boarding. Boarders pay 65,000 shillings ($35) per term. The government grant in the last full year was 1,000,000 shillings ($540).
