Navigation

Father Hilders Primary School was established in 1963 and had 1,064 pupils in P1-P7 at the end of the last school year. This number has fallen since 2006 because a camp for internally displaced people from northern Uganda was very close to the school and children from the camp attended the school. They have now felt safe enough to return to their homes, taking the children with them.

Father Hilders Primary School now has 600 students. There are 21 teachers and 28 classrooms. The UPE grant last year was 2,300,000 shillings ($1,250) and the school cannot charge any additional fees because of the economic situation of the parents.

A local detachment from the army has been helping with the renovation of some classrooms. The chairman of the PTA is a contractor and his company is building some accommodation for the teachers which have been funded by European Union funds. This accommodation is almost complete.
