Bukasa Primary School started in 1995 with 12 students and operated under an acacia tree until the parents constructed a papyrus mat structure.

Bukasa Primary SchoolBukasa Primary School was founded by the Kampala City Council and is a government funded school, although it received only 642,000 shillings ($380) in the last full year. 439 students are educated from Nursery school to Primary 7. It operates with 13 teachers and 11 classrooms with a fee of 28,000 shillings ($16) per term for the students.Many parents, however, have trouble covering the cost as the school is located in an underdeveloped area of the city and many of the children are orphans or from single-parent families.

Bukasa Primary School faces many challenges including a lack of textbooks and teaching materials, poor government funding, poor teachers’ accommodations making it hard to retain quality teachers, and poor infrastructure of the school.
