Dr. Aryamanya To Deliver The Bagoora Memorial Lecture Today

Former Executive Director of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Dr. Aryamanya Mugisha, will today deliver the Dr. Bagoora Memorial Lecture at Makerere University, starting 02:00 pm.

The lecture themed, “Environmental Regulatory and Institutional Framework in Uganda: Practical Challenges to Sustainability”, is organised by the Department of Geography, Geo informatics and Climatic Sciences (DGGCS), College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), Makerere University in partnership with Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) and Makerere University Convocation (MUC).

Dr. Aryamanya currently works with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, one of the world’s leading research organisations in finding solutions for hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.

He holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Makerere University, an MSc in Analytical Chemistry from Ohio University and a PhD. Dr. Aryamanya has over 27 years of experience working in government and non-governmental organisations. He served as the Executive Director of NEMA from 2002 to 2011.

Dr. Festus Bagoora passed away on 19th August 2015. He was an instrumental and long serving member the DGGCS. He taught and supervised many staff members at Masters and PhD level. He also worked as The National Enviroinment Management Authority (NEMA)’s Natural Resources Management Specialist (Soils and Land Use).

Dr. Festus Bagoora served the academic fraternity for over 30 years. He was one of the more polished and accomplished geomorphologists in the country and region at large.

Hon. Dr. Goreti Kitutu, State Minister for Environment and Woman MP, Manafwa District will be the day’s Guest of Honour.
