Kings College Buddo

King’s College Buddo is a government sponsored, mixed secondary school in Wakiso District, on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. King’s College Buddo is located on Buddo Hill, in southern Wakiso District, off the Kampala-Masaka Road. This location lies approximately 14 kilometres (8.7 mi), by road, southwest of the central business district of Kampala.

Academics: King’s College Buddo has a sound academic culture and has established a reputation alongside this. King’s College Buddo offers a well balanced curriculum to give students opportunities to prepare for further education. Embedded in the curriculum are values that include the fear of God, active participation, responsibility, honesty, integrity, self-respect among others. The subjects offered at the school are, English, Chemistry, Commerce, Mathematics, Christian Religious, Fine Art, Biology   , Political Education, Computer Studies, Geography, Physical Education, History, Physics, French, Agriculture, German, and Sub math.


History: King’s College Buddo was officially opened on 29 March 1906 with 21 boys. It is one of the oldest schools in Africa. King’s College Buddo was initially set up as a school to educate the sons of chiefs, but gradually it started admitting Ugandans from all walks of life and from all over the country, without regard to ethnicity, religion or background. In 1933, the first 6 girls were admitted thereby making it the first co-education great school in the country. King’s College Buddo was started by Henry Walter Weatherhead, an ordained priest of the Church of England, and a graduate of Trinity College Cambridge.

The alumni of the school include three presidents, Vice President, 2 Prime Ministers, Speaker of Parliament, and 3 Kings of Buganda Kingdom, various royals, academics, clergymen and sports personalities.

Facilities: King’s College Buddo has many facilities and among them is an ICT lab, well stocked library, swimming pool and residential houses like Ghana, England, Mutessa, South Africa, Australia and Canada for boys and other three dormitories of Grace, and Sabaganzi, for girls. Athletics include rugby, cricket, soccer, track, tennis, volleyball, hockey, basketball and golf.
